This week I’ve been contemplating the impact I’m having as a human being living on this planet. It’s a big subject but worth exploring and re-examining from time to time. As always we start from where we are, and approach it with compassion (neither bad or wrong and without judgement).

Last weekend I spent three nights camping at Into the Wild Festival in Sussex. Uniquely a drug and alcohol free event and at its heart, sustainability and low impact on our planet. Think composting loos and no rubbish bins. The reality is that humans create a lot of waste!! Even the most mindful of beings, inadvertently create waste. This was my observation and led me to consider my actions and lifestyle choices in a more conscious way.

We all have a duty to treat the Earth with respect as we learn to minimise our individual impact, whilst collectively enjoying our time on this beautiful planet sharing our natural resources.

So, here are three ways we experience Impact – let me know if any resonate with you or if you have any ideas on ways we can collectively have greater IMPACT as a community.

1. Interconnected

One consciousness – As yoga practitioners we develop a deeper connection with nature and a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of all life. Leading to a heightened sense of environmental awareness and responsibility. This can lead to eco-friendly lifestyle choices and actions, fostering a positive impact on the planet. Additionally, many yoga traditions emphasise mindfulness and respect for the Earth, encouraging each of us to minimise our ecological footprint. Have you felt this calling to live more sustainably and how you have achieved it? I’m curious!

2. Vibes

What impact are we having on others? This is more about energy. An invitation to look at the energetic impact we have on those around us. Can you identify the impact you have on a room? In a conversation perhaps? Or within the family dynamic? Observe and watch just how powerful you can be…

3. Empowered

Do we feel empowered enough to have impact? Do we allow ourselves the time and space to be the best versions of ourselves? What’s the impact we desire if any? Here are some suggestions by way of inspiration: I am aligned with nature. I cause no harm. I love to learn and share knowledge. These are – in essence – covered in the yoga sutras as well as many other ancient traditions.
